Soomro wants Pak, Korea trade ties to boost

ISLAMABAD—The election of Ban KiMoon as the new Secretary General of the
UN heralds the beginning of a new era and is a glimmer of hope for the
developing world.
This was stated by the Chairman Senate Mohammedmian Soomro while talking
to a group of South Korean Parliamentarians headed by Nam Kyung Pil,
which met him at the Parliament House Wednesday.
The Ambassador of Republic of South Korea to Pakistan, Kim Joo-Seok was
also present on the occasion.
Warmly extending his congratulations to the government and the people of
South Korea, he said, Pakistan looks forward to work in close
coordination with the new Secretary General when he takes over after
some time. He termed the election as a singular honour for South Korea
and said that it reflected the confidence it enjoyed in the comity of
nations.
The Chairman Senate said Pakistan highly valued its relations with South
Korea and it desires further expansion and consolidation of these
relations the trade, economic and cultural fields.
The two countries, he said have complete identity of views on many
issues.
They have the potential to expand their trade and to undertake joint
ventures in various fields. He invited South Korean investment in
different areas in the country, which hold great promise.
Referring to the conducive climate of the investment in the country, the
Chairman said far-reaching economic reforms have transformed the country
completely and it has now emerged as an attractive destination for
potential investors and entrepreneurs, local as well as foreign.
He particularly mentioned the fact that Pakistan enjoys an advantageous
position owing to its geographical location, which borders three
important regions including Central Asia, Gulf and Middle East.
Soomro also commended the South Korean decision to take workers from
Pakistan.
He said the government is making efforts to enhance and upgrade the
skill level of its workers.
He thanked the delegation for Korean support on IPSED and its assistance
for the relief of earthquake victims in Pakistan.
The leader of the South Korean delegation thanked Mohammedmian Soomro
for the country’s support in the UN Secretary General’s election and
said that We have an identity of views with Pakistan on many regional
and international issues including nuclear non-proliferation.
He informed the Chairman that Pakistani workers are hard working and
playing an important role in socio-economic development of their country
and at present, there are about 11000 Pakistanis in South Korea.
He also informed that in his own constituency, many Pakistani workers
are engaged in SMEs and we are looking after them properly, He hoped
that his visit would further increase the interaction between two
Parliaments. |
