From Zeeshan Mirza
KARACHI—President General Pervez Musharraf has said the education system
is being tailored on modern lines to promote the vision of enlightened
moderation.

school held here Monday. He underlined the need for focusing full
attention on attainment of knowledge to carve eminent position in the
comity of nations.

changes in education system, he said adding education is being imparted
in both the languages by bridging the gap between English and Urdu
medium schools.
Terming the elections of 2007 as mother of all elections president urged
that “ we will have to defeat extremist elements of all the parties in
this election. These elements want to go to the opposite direction of
progress besides taking us to the medieval era.
He appealed to the people to exercise their right to vote in the next

fomenting sectarian hatred. President also announced grant of Rs 5

President General Pervez Musharraf on Monday said Pakistan’s defence
strategy was based on “defensive deterrence”, both in conventional and
unconventional spheres. “We want to use our arms for peace only for
defensive deterrence,” President Musharraf told participants here at the
inauguration of fourth International Defence Exhibition and Seminar
(IDEAS) 2006.
The President said Pakistan’s defence strategy emanated from its belief
that peace could only be achieved through strength and not weakness. He
said in the past Pakistan quantified its requirements and weaponry for
the army, navy and the airforce to deter any aggression in the
conventional areas.
However he said “when the threat grew unconventional we had to rectify
the imbalance and therefore we also went unconventional.” President
Musharraf said “our strategy on defensive deterrence, both in
conventional and unconventional fields is in place, in strength and is
growing from strength to strength every year.”
The President said that Pakistan learnt from its past experiences to go
for indigenous development of its defense products and to diversify
markets for purchases. He said Pakistan in the beginning had excellent
defence collaboration with the Afro-Asian countries, mostly in training.
He said country’s defence training institutions were very well organised,
extended practical training to all ranks from Pakistani and overseas
officers. |
