4-day ATAIC conference to commence from 22nd
ISLAMABAD—A 4-day Conference of the top tax authorities of the Muslim
World, the Association of Tax Authorities of Islamic Countries (ATAIC),
will commence here from November 22.
Top tax authorities of the Muslim world are participating in the 4-day
Conference (November 22-25), being held here under the auspices of
Central Board of Revenue. Currently, 20 Islamic states are the members
of ATAIC.
Member (Direct Taxes), CBR, Salman Nabi, in an interview, informed
thatthe important topics like Resource Mobilization through increase in
Tax-to-GDP Ratio and expansion in Tax Base, Promotion of Voluntary
Compliance and Tax Audit as an Effective Deterrence for Tax Compliance
and Shariah Taxation with particular reference to Zakat will come under
discussion during the 4-day Conference.
He said that more than 65 foreign delegates have confirmed their
participation in the Conference. Delegations from member and non-member
states have already started arriving from Malaysian, Iranian and Saudi
delegations has already arrived this morning. The Saudi delegation also
visited Central Board of Revenue and hadinformal discussions with Member
(Direct Taxes), Salman Nabi and Coordinator of the Conference, Mrs.
Farida Amjad.
In the afternoon, the tax team from Kuwait was welcomed by Commissioner
Income Tax, Medium Taxpayers Unit, Rawalpindi, Iqbal Muzaffar and other
senior officials of CBR at Islamabad Airport. Delegates from Morocco,
Senegal, Turkey, Jordon, Bahrain and Azerbaijan are scheduled to arrive
tomorrow.
Delegates from some of the Islamic countries including Brunei
Darussalam, Indonesia etc. are expected to arrive here on Wednesday
morning. It may be noted that ATAIC is the second international
conference, organized by the Central Board of Revenue, in a short span
of less than a month. Earlier, CBR’s Directorate General of Customs
Intelligence hosted a 3-day conference of Contact Points of World
Customs Organization’s Regional Intelligence Liaison Offices (RILOs) for
Asia & Pacific (AP) from October 30 to November 1, 2006.—APP |
