Hasba Bill to reach before Governor today
PESHAWAR—Hasba Bill, passed by the NWFP Assembly last week, will be
presented to the provincial Governor, Ali Mohammad Jan Aurakzai, today
(Monday). The bill was passed by the Mutahidda Majlis-e-Amal with an
overwhelming majority. However, under the constitutional provisions, it
cannot become a law unless ratified by the Governor.
There is, so far, no word from the Governor’s office as to how he would
treat the bill. But, as the provincial government and the MMA are
optimistic about a smooth sailing for the bill at the Governor House,
sources in the provincial capital see little chances that the Governor
would sign the document. The federal government has already expressed
its opposition to the bill. Being a nominee of the federation, the
Governor would think for many times, before ratifying the bill. A case
has also been filed in the Supreme Court against the passage of the
bill.—Online |
