PPP has joined Govt team, says Baloch
LAHORE—Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) Sunday said that Pakistan Peoples
Party (PPP) has compromised with President Pervez Musharraf by
supporting controversial Women Protection Bill.
MMA Deputy Parliamentary Leader Liaqat Baloch told newsmen here at
Mansoora that MMA’s decision to resign from the assemblies is a final
decision and there would be no change in it, whatsoever.
Baloch said the decision to quit assemblies was for the sake of
democratic rights of the people and Islamic values and it is not an
anti-democracy step. He vowed that the religious parties would not keep
silent on legislation contrary to the teachings of the Holy Qur’an and
Sunnah adding, “We will continue our struggle for restoration of
democracy in the country.”
“We are abided by our promise of resigning from the assemblies and the
impression that MMA is deviating from it, is untrue,” he added. He said
the announcement of resignations from the assemblies by MMA has put the
rulers in deep trouble. He said the religious alliance was contacting
other opposition parties in this regard. Hafiz Hussain Ahmed, Deputy
Parliamentary Leader Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) has said that his
resignation is as per the manifesto of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA).
In an interview to a private TV on Sunday, the opposition leader said
that even in the presence of ten thousand ulema he can prove that the
bill is un Islamic. Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain is untrustworthy. He
maintained at the first meeting of the MMA Supreme Council it was
decided that the MMA will resign. I announced my decision to resign from
the assembly on the basis of this decision. MMA has appreciated my
decision to resign that proves that there are no differences within MMA.
Hafiz Hussain Ahmed said that I feel proud at resigning against the
passage of Hudood bill from the assembly.
He challenged PML President that he can prove the bill as un-Islamic. In
response to a query, he said Chaudhry Shujaat has been disloyal earlier
he entered into an agreement with MMA on the issue of Women Protection
Bill but later backed out. Later he called the ulema committee and
entered into an agreement with them saying that the bill will be
presented in the assembly along with (MMA) recommendations. He failed to
live up to it as well. Deputy Secretary General of Muttahida
Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) and member National Assembly Liaqat Baloch has said
that the decision of resignations by MMA is aimed at the strengthening
of Islamic norms in the country.
He expressed his views while addressing to Jamaat-e-Islami district
convention here in Gujranwala on Sunday. Liaqat Baloch said that MMA
would not remain a silent spectator over passing of unislamic laws in
the country while the decision of resignations by MMA is its democratic
right. “MMA decision of resignations is aimed at the fortification of
Islamic values in the country”, he added.—Agencies |
