country as per demand from countrywide 24,000 women councillors being
groomed under its programme titled “Women’s Political School(WPS)” to
ensure blessings of devolution of power at grass roots.
An official talking to APP on Sunday, said female representatives were
asking the ministry to groom male nazim and naib nazims to effectively
discharge their duties in tandem in the system for the benefit of masses
at local level.
The donor agencies, the official said were also asking the ministry to
look into the councillors’ proposals and bring male nazim and naib
nazims within the fold of its WPS training programme to achieve concrete
results in wake of the local government system for the welfare of entire
society.
The official further said the network’s officials also called for
reviewing the district support network mechanism to further strengthen
coordination among the local representatives of the people in the local
government system to bring positive change in lives of the common man
through the system.
The official said that Inter Agency Network for Gender and Development (INGAD),

When asked whether the same WPS’s syllabus would be used, if the
ministry launched training programme for the male representatives, she
said in addition to the existing training materials, some new concepts
would be incorporated into the course, given the duties of nazim and
naib nazims in the system. When asked whether the same WPS’s syllabus

To another question, she said that the ministry would utilize the
services of the same trainers who were already imparting training to
women councillors across the country under the United Nations
Development Programme, which had been funded by Norwegian
government.—APP |
