Released Mirza
Tahir leaves for UK
ISLAMABAD—Mirza Tahir Hussain, a British
citizen, on death row in Pakistan for a
murder was released on Friday morning from
Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi and sent to UK
via a special plane.
President Pervez Musharraf on Thursday had
commuted the death sentence on Mirza Tahir
Hussain, 36, of Leeds, West Yorks to a
life sentence. According to interior
ministry sources, the British High
Commission in Islamabad and his family had
been apprised of the special orders of the
president. While the Interior Ministry had
sent a notification to the Home Secretary
Punjab in this respect, which scrutinized
the entire prison record of Mirza Tahir
and found that the convict had spent
double of his life imprisonment. Upon
which IG Jail ordered the Adiala Jail
authorities to release Mirza Tahir Hussain.
Upon receiving the orders the Adiala Jail
authorities released Mirza Tahir to
British High Commission authorities. Mirza
Tahir was brought to Islamabad
International Airport directly from the
prison from where he was sent to UK abroad
