MMA to quit
NWFP, Balochistan PAs too: Qazi
Bureau Report
PESHAWAR—President of MMA, and Amir JI Qazi Hussain has announced that
MMA has decided to resign from assemblies by consensus, and the
resignations would be handed over to the Speaker.
While addressing a press conference at the Peshawar press club, he said
that the scheduled meeting on 6-7 December would only be a Parliamentary
meeting, where all the member parties would be informed about the final
consensus. He said that in the first phase of movement against the
current regime, resignations have been announced, while resignations
from the Provincial Assemblies of NWFP and Balochistan would also follow
soon.
He also said that the resignations, on which there would be no
compromise, would follow after each member has delivered a speech
condemning the anti-Muslim and anti-constitutional policies of President
Musharraf. He said that this consensus has assured that MMA was united
and all the news and views about any differences among the component
parties were mere propaganda.
He accused president Musharraf of various crimes, which include,
fomenting obscenity and vulgarity, Bajour bombing spree, Wazirstan
conflict, among numerous other charges. He also accused the Army regime
of depriving various provinces of their royalties’ revenue, and making
all-important National decisions by four corps commanders, while no
decisions are undertaken in NSC meetings because of civilian presence.
While replying to a question, he termed the recent requisition of
Minister about eschewing the Assembly meeting for the next four months
as strictly un-constitutional and said that assembly could be summoned
on requisition.

Friday brushed aside speculations about rift among the six-party
religious alliance over the decision of en-bloc resignations in protest
of adoption of Women Protection Bill 2006 “MMA is firm on its decision
to resign from assemblies. Neither will we change our decision, nor
negotiate with the government,” said MMA president at a news conference
here at Peshawar press Club. He was flamked by MNA Shabir Ahmad Khan,
Hakeem Abdul Waheed and Dr. Iqbal Khalil.
He said the MMA would resign from the National Assembly in first place
and then they would decide to resign from the provincial assemblies and
the Senate. Qazi Hussain Ahmad claimed that the ruling league is facing
differences over a host of issues, including PWB, providing an open
ground to Pakistan People Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qoumi Movement (MQM)
to develop close relations with General Pervez Musharraf, naturally
winding gap between the President and ruling party.
“Today’s government’s request for suspension of National Assembly
session for four months clearly showed that the ruling party is
confronted with differences from inside,” he added.
