IIUI Academic Staff Association takes oath

ISLAMABAD—The members of newly established Academic Staff Association (ASA) of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) took oath of their offices here on Friday.
Rector, International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), Dr. Manzoor Ahmad administered oath-taking of the office bearers of the Association.
Addressing the oath-taking ceremony, Dr. Manzoor asked the associationto form study groups and hold regular and in-depth discussions on issues confronted by the Ummah.
The issues like legislation in the Parliament, technology and humanresources have great relevance to our personal and collective life and must be discussed academically on university level, he added.
Dr. Anwar Hussain Siddiqui, Acting President IIUI, while responding to the issues pointed out by the teachers association, said the appointments of teachers on contract basis is an unavoidable phenomenon as government pay scales do not attract professionals to join teaching faculty.
He informed the audience that negotiations were under way with various banks to enter into partnership with the University for construction of a housing colony. Dr. Siddiqui further stated that the University is working on some proposals to restore foreign grants previously given by a number of friendly countries including Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
Dr. Khalifa Hasan Ahmed, Vice President (Acad), on this occasion, congratulated teachers for the formation of their association and hoped that it will share the burden of responsibilities with the administration of the University.
Earlier, Arshad Zia, President ASA assured to make the Association an integral partner in the welfare of teachers and development of the University.
Dr. Azhar Javed, General Secretary ASA talked about the issues of teaching staff and presented a number of suggestions for resolving them.—APP
