President urges masses not to be misled

TURBAT—President General Pervez Musharraf has said Women Protection Bill (WPB) has been corrected in accordance with true spirit of Islam adding that the potential massage of Islam is against the tyranny and injustice.
He was addressing inauguration ceremony of Meerani dam here Thursday. He held a new era of development and prosperity will usher in with the construction of Meerani dam.
He went on to say that mega water projects were initiated in 2001. Work has to be done all over the country in terms of water vision-2005. “ We have started planning. Not a single drop of water was available in this area in 2001. Now water is galore. It is obligation of government to ensure due rights for the people. This dam will cost Rs 6 billions.
Nothing will work if economy remains fragile, he cautioned. The commitment is firm and economy is robust , he remarked. “ We have financial resources with us now. The agriculture sector will flourish with the construction of this dam, he added.
President also announced to operate two branches of Balochistan university in Gwadar and Turbat. The outstanding loan against the poor people will be written off, he announced. Industrial development has come.
The government can not run factories. It is better that you people set up factories so that people could benefit from them. Government will help set up cold storage in Gwadar. Government is purchasing electricity from Iran and supplying to Turbat.
Electricity has been supplied to 30 to 40 villages, he told. Every tribal Nazim has been provided Rs 100 million so that these could be spent on the development projects in the tribal areas.
About 2.50 billion rupees will be allocated to members of parliament. Government will extend grant for electrification of the area. Wapda employees will get bonus equal to one month salary here, he declared.
Subakzai dam will be inaugurated in March next year, he told. The fish production in Meerani dam will generate income of 100 million rupees per annum, he added. 33 thousand land will come under cultivation. Quality of life will be improved.
He informed that 1.5 billion rupees will be disbursed among the affectees. It should be ensured that compensation money is disbursed among the deserving people.
He pointed out that no dam was built during the last thirty years. This is a shameful situation for us. I take pride in saying “ we are building dams. We will construct Kuram Tangi dam and Munda dam in NWFP, he added.
We will construct Kalabagh dam and Akori dam too. Country is facing water shortage by 9 million acre feet. If no reservoirs are built, this shortage will rise to the level of 30 million acre feet.—Agencies
