Ms. Dynamite’s latest smash
From Josh Grossberg

Los Angeles—Ms. Dynamite isn’t feeling so hot these days. The British rapper was recuperating Sunday after emerging relatively unscathed from a high-speed car crash that occurred during filming of an auto-racing reality show for the U.K.’s Sky One TV network, according to published reports.
Ms. Dynamite, whose real name is Niomi Mclean-Daley, was driving an estimated 100 miles per hour at the renowned Silverstone racetrack in central England when a car driven by fellow contestant AC/DC singer Brian Johnson bumped her Formula Ford vehicle, sending her careening into a barrier and skidding out of control.
“The contestants were on lap four of 25 when Brian Johnson’s wheel clipped the back of Ms. Dynamite’s car, causing it to spin down the track for about [55 yards] before it came to a halt,” a Sky rep told the Agence France-Presse. “It was quite a violent collision, but paramedics were straight on the scene.”
According to the spokesman, the 25-year-old hip-hopster was “conscious and talking and seemed to be okay” but was airlifted to nearby Northhampton General Hospital where doctors kept her overnight for observation.
“She doesn’t appear to have any serious injuries, but she is bound to be very shaken,” he added.
Highway to Hell indeed.
The mishap took place on the last day of shooting of The Race, Sky’s popular motorsport competition pitting celebrities such as Melissa Joan Hart, Atomic Kitten’s Jenny Frost and Gary Numan (he of the classic ‘80s tune “Cars”) against one another on the track. Lucky for Ms. Dynamite and Sky One, the network decided not to carry the race live.
Per the London Times, after the reality show’s commentator informed viewers that the emcee was going to be okay, the race was restarted and the AC/DC frontman beat out synth-pop star Numan by a fraction of a second for the victory.
Ms. Dynamite exploded onto the music scene with her seductive 2002 debut, A Little Deeper, which nabbed her Britain’s prestigious Mercury Music Prize for Album of the Year. After taking time off to have a baby, she returned to performing last summer, appearing on the London bill of Live 8.
In January of this year, however, the R&B singer made headlines of a different sort after her firecracker of a temper led her to become verbally and physically abusive to a female police officer outside a London nightclub. She pleaded guilty to assault and disorderly conduct and was subsequently sentenced to 60 hours of community service and fined $1,324.
