HEC to hold ground breaking ceremony of UEST on 18th

ISLAMABAD—Higher Education Commission will hold the ground breaking ceremony of an Engineering, Science and Technology University (UEST) at Defence Housing Authority, Lahore on November 18 under its UEST Plan.
An official of the Higher Education Commission told APP here on Wednesday that the university is being set up in coordination with Austria. Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Lahore has provided a piece of land stretching over 100 acres to the Higher Education Commission (HEC) for establishment of the university, he added.
He said, HEC in its efforts to meet the modern age challenges of producing technically skilled work force equipped with internationally accredited standard education, is setting up six UEST under its 'UEST Plan'. These universities are being set up in close collaboration with prominent universities of Austria, France, Sweden, Netherlands, Korea and Italy at Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Sialkot and Peshawar, he informed.
He said, the universities will focus on imparting high quality engineering education comparable with international standards. It will cater to the industrial, technological and research needs of the country, he added.
The Official said, the idea behind their establishment is in line with direction of the Medium Term Development Framework (MTDF) 2005-10 which gives due importance to Higher Education Infrastructure development and associated sectoral reforms. He said, their methodology and standards will be established and maintained by the partner universities.
