NWUA provides vocational, computer education to hundreds of needy women
ISLAMABAD—National Women Uplift Association (NWUA), aimed at improving
the lot of women segment of the society, has imparted vocational and
computer education to hundreds of women during the last two years.
The association, working since 1997 has around 29 vocational centres
where courses for women are arranged with a view to help them augment
their income and make them useful citizens of the society and asset for
the country. Talking to APP here Tuesday, Chairperson Senate Standing
Committee on Education, Science and Technology, Razina Alam Khan said in
all the centers of literacy, vocational training and computer, no fee is
charged from the students.
“Our aim is eradication of illiteracy among women and young children who
are deprived of proper education because of their adverse social
circumstances,” she said.
The Chairperson said the students of ages 10 to 30 years were enrolled
who were very keen to learn and some of them faired extremely well.
Senator Razina said the students were provided vocational training in
hand and machine embroidery, quilting, cut work, shadow and glass work,
wood and fabric painting and cooking.
She said the students were also imparted non-formal education and after
a training of six months can read, write small paragraph and able to
maintain their household accounts. She said to maintain quality, the
centres are visited fortnightly by the Director Vocational Training and
the Field Assistant and added the progress of teachers and students are
recorded. Senator Razina besides vocational training centres, NWUA has
also established two computer labs equipped with 10 computer each to
provide basic computer education to the women.—APP |
