Cesare Miola, Consultant High Pressure Ammonia Urea Equipment, Italy Heat exposure to Waste Heat Steam Generator’s gas inlet channel due to refractory failure and its repair according to Fitness-for-Service Code (API-579). After 06 years of operation, fire damage occurred on the inlet nozzle of reformed gas waste heat steam generator. The paper presents results of the failure analysis, description of the work done and fitness-for-service assessment within the guidelines provided under ‘Recommended Practice for Fitness-for-Service (API-579).
The morphology of nitride layer formed has been discussed in terms of case depth & maximum hardness. X-Ray diffraction of the samples was performed to identify the nature of nitride layer formed.
