Need for adopting modern techniques in agri sector stressed
By Trriq Chaudhry
ISLAMABAD—The technical experts continued their deliberations at 2nd
International Conference on Ammonia & Urea Technology here on Tuesday
underscored the need of adopting modern means of fertilizers
applications for enhancing soil productivity and achieving more
agriculture production.
The participants read out different papers highlighting the importance
of the subject calling upon the farmers to use fertilizers in line with
requirements of the soils. The paper describes the effects on Secondary
Reformer and waste heat boilers as a result of Process air compressor
surging, experienced at Ammonia-2 Unit for the 1st time in the history
of Engro Chemicals Pakistan Limited, Daharki.
The Incident resulted in a plant shutdown of 12 days. It also describes
analysis, repair work and problems encountered to put the plant in
service in minimum possible time and the remedial actions taken to
handle the issue.
In his papers Arshad Masood Zahidi & Rehman Hanif, Engro Chemicals
Pakistan Limited brings out the how the initial strategy and road map
was developed to complete this very challenging world class project with
very successful results.
It also highlighted major problems causing deviation from the plan and
the continuous changes made to stay on course with the main objective.

VISWANATHAN, Commissioning Manager, Snamprogetti S.P.A. gives detailed
account of events leading to deactivation of pre-reformer catalyst,
study and analysis done Comments on Safety Management in Operation over
Ten Years Abstract.
This paper briefs the safety production of Tianhua’s ammonia and urea
plants since they were put in operation ten (10) years ago, summaries
and analyzes the occurrence laws of equipment accidents, personnel
injury accidents, experience and lessons as well as the corresponding
precautions taken during the past 10 year period, aiming to find out the
key points of next step safety production work for colleagues, reference
and communication.

Needs of High Pressure Equipment of Urea Plant his paper presents
consideration on corrosion in urea plants.
These considerations include safety, best criteria and procedure for
inspection and the criteria for good maintenance. The paper presents
methods to detect and repair carbamate solution leakages. The paper also
describes some of the most repairs feasible in field and give some best
criteria about how to arrange for maintenance purpose.

Heat exposure to Waste Heat Steam Generator’s gas inlet channel due to
refractory failure and its repair according to Fitness-for-Service Code
(API-579). After 06 years of operation, fire damage occurred on the
inlet nozzle of reformed gas waste heat steam generator. The paper
presents results of the failure analysis, description of the work done
and fitness-for-service assessment within the guidelines provided under
‘Recommended Practice for Fitness-for-Service (API-579).
The morphology of nitride layer formed has been discussed in terms of
case depth & maximum hardness. X-Ray diffraction of the samples was
performed to identify the nature of nitride layer formed. |
