Pakistanis protest in Athens

ATHENS—Hundreds of banner-waving Pakistani immigrants demonstrated in Athens to demand the freeing of a community leader accused of people-trafficking.
Javid Aslam, detained on Monday at his Athens home, came to prominence when he condemned the alleged illegal detention and interrogation of some 10 Pakistani immigrants after the July 7, 2005 public transport bombings in London in which 52 people and the four suicide bombers died.
He accused the Greek EYP secret services and their British counterparts MI6 of carrying out the operation and the Pakistani authorities of trying to hush the affair up.
Aslam, head of the Pakistan Unity organisation, was arrested on an Interpol warrant at the request of the Pakistani authorities who claim he acted as an intermediary in the clandestine transfer of immigrants between Pakistan and Greece.—Agencies
