LAHORE—Extremism and terrorism would be crushed with full force and a
handful extremists would not allowed to held the entire society hostage.
He expressed the resolve in a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister
Chaudhry Pervez Elahi at CM House here on Friday. They discussed in
details the current situation in the country, development projects of
the Punjab government, reforms in the education sector and Jalalpur
development project. The chief minister told the President that
revolutionary steps in education, irrigation, health and other sectors
are taken under a strategy due to which these sectors are rapidly making
development.
Pervez Elahi condemned Dargai incident and said that the Punjab
government was fully supporting President policies for elimination of
terrorism and extremism. Sources privy to the meeting said that
President Musharraf hailed the Punjab government steps taken for the
uplift of the province and urged the other provinces to follow the
policies of Punjab.
The President said that timely completion of the development projects
would not only reduce unnecessary expenditures but also help boost the
standard of life of people. “Pakistan’s economy has taken off and we are
on the road to progress,” he added. President Musharraf lambasted Dargai
incident and said that the government would not tolerate these incidents
at any cost. “Our intelligence agencies will soon trace the elements
behind the Dargai suicide attack,” he noted.
He said no one would be allowed to challenge writ of government and the
entire society where majority of moderate people live, would not be left
to be held hostage by a handful extremists. The President urged all the
political parties to be united against terrorism and extremism in the
supreme national interest. “Terrorism is a challenge and we have to
counter it,” he added. He said the government would utilize all
resources for elimination of terrorism and extremism.
The President underlined the need for making PML vibrant in Punjab. He
hailed the Muslim League efforts for resolution of masses’ problems.
President General Pervez Musharraf, appreciating Punjab government’s
initiatives for socio-economic uplift, has said that these efforts would
bring about healthy effects on the overall development of the province.
He was presiding over a meeting at Chief Minister’s House here Friday.
The meeting was attended by Punjab Governor, Lt. Gen (rtd) Khalid
Maqbool, Chief Minister, Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi, Corps Commander Lahore
, Lt Gen Shafaatullah, Chairman National Commission for Human Resource
Development, Dr. Nasim Ashraf, provincial secretaries and other senior
officials. Chief Secretary Punjab, Salman Siddiq and Chairman Planning
and Development, Suleman Ghani gave briefing on Mega Projects in Lahore
and Health Sector Reforms Programme respectively. |
