collection increases by Rs13.3m monthly

ISLAMABAD—The revenue of Excise and Taxation Department of the capital
territory has witnesses an increase of Rs 13.3 million monthly,
officials said.
The department is considering to levy 8 percent Bed Tax on hotels and
guest houses while it would soon start collecting renewal and other fees
saving commission that is being paid to other departments, officials
added.
The National Bank of Pakistan would be establishing collection counter
at Excise Office soon. A top official said that the revenue collection
has been simplified and more steps are being taken to further
uncomplicated it which will attract more revenue.
The official said that Excise authorities would soon start collecting
registration and renewal fees at their facility saving the time of the
customers.
“We are in process to simplify the system and the customers would get
all facilities under one roof - the role of Pakistan Post (post offices)
would come to an end,” said the official adding that this would also
save the commission that Excise has been paying to postal services
department.
He said that due to the government’s positive policy and all major banks
stepping into consumer finance — some 10,000 cars are being registered
monthly which has boosted the revenue. Similarly, there is a lot of
transfer of ownership which has added to the government’s income.
Under the motor registration head, Excise office collected Rs
15,21,88,765 rupees in the first quarter of 2006-7 while during the
corresponding period it has made it to Rs 12,91,76,938.
Rs 55,557,117 have been collected as Token fee while during the same
period last year Rs 44,251,154 were collected. Also Excise authorities
collected Rs 73,497 as Education Cess.
A sum of Rs 25,94,3594 were collected as Excise Duty while last year
22,06,2255 were collected. Rs 14,19,117 were collected against the last
year’s 9,41,014. Rs 1,06,2500 has been collected as entertainment duty,
Rs 7,74,200 from motor vehicle and property dealers, 20,400 as Tobacco
Vad Fee. |
