Report on missing persons unsatisfactory: SC

ISLAMABAD—Supreme Court (SC), has termed official report on missing
persons unsatisfactory and directed the government to present a complete
and comprehensive report before the court on December, 1.
The SC full bench which heard the case comprised chief justice Iftikhar
Muhammad Chaudhry, justice Muhammad Nawaz Abbasi and justice Sayyed
Saeed ul Shahd,
Presenting the report deputy attorney general Nasir Saeed Sheikh said
information has been received about 9 missing persons including Syed
Mumtaz Hussain, Muhammad Bilal Bugti, Murtaza Khan, Askari Raza, Syed
Liaqat Hussain Nayyar, Syed Nasir Mehdi from Karachi, Imran, Shamsher
Khan from Hyderabad, Omar Siddiqui from Jamshoro and Muhammad Zaheer,
NWFP. The list of 18 missing persons provided by Mr Janjua include two
such persons who are in jail. They are Imran Shamsher Khan and Muhammad
Zaheer, the former is in Lahore jail while the latter is in Swat jail.
The search for the remaining 14 persons is underway.
The federal government has reactivated all the law enforcement agencies
in this connection, he submitted. National crisis management cell headed
by Brig Javed Iqbal Cheema has been set up who is present in the court.
The family members of the missing persons were also present in the
court.
The chief justice while giving the remarks said “ Deputy Attorney
General, This is very important matter of human rights. Our request be
conveyed to the government that it should solve the case as soon as
possible.
Deputy attorney general submitted that it has come to the knowledge of
the government that Imran Shamsher Siddiqui and A Omar Siddiqui are in
jail and facing several cases.
Chief Justice directed the deputy attorney general to submit complete
list of 41 persons.
Brig Cheema submitted that government would try its best in this regard.
Deputy Attorney General informed that persons appearing at No 1 and 6
have filed writ in Sindh high court while person placed at No 9 has
filed writ in Peshawar high court. The court adjourned the hearing till
December 1. |
