Toy bomb kills 5 girls in AJK

MUZAFFARABAD—At least 5 young schoolgirls including three sisters were killed in a toy-bomb bats in Kel area of Neelum Valley of Azad Jammu & Kashmir on Friday.
The young girls were playing with a toy-shaped bomb, which they had found at the ground of Girls High School, Kel that went off. Three girls died on the spot in the explosion and other two succumbed to their injuries in MDS hospital. Three of the girls were sisters identified as Naheeda Bibi, Sajida Bibi and Shaheen Bibi. Law enforcement agencies have started search for other toy bombs in the area. Five Pakistani girls who mistook a mortar bomb for a toy were killed on Friday when the device exploded as they played with it, police said. Three of the girls were sisters. The accident occurred at a village in Kashmir near Pakistan’s heavily militarized border with India. “The girls mistook the shell as a toy and it exploded,” Zahoor Gillani, a senior police official told Reuters. Areas on both sides of the border are littered with unexploded ordnance fired by Pakistani and Indian forces during decades of fighting over the Himalayan region of Kashmir.—Agencies
