SC expresses displeasure over Textile Industry crisis

ISLAMABAD—The Standing Committee of Textile industry has expressed displeasure over prevailing crises of the Textile Industry, reduction in textile export after abolition of quota system and subsidies that are to be given to the Textile Industry.
The meeting was held in the Parliament House under the chairmanship of Chaudhry Nazir Ahmad Jatt on Monday.
The Member Sales Tax, CBR briefed in details the Committee on the Sales Tax refund issue, which was stuck up with the CBR for the last 2 years.
The Committee directed the Members Sales Tex, CBR to sort out the problems and informed the committee within a month accordingly.
Zubair Motiwala also gave briefing on the recommendations, which were made for the uplift of the Textile Industry and also informed on the issues which were facing to the Textile industry at that time.
He also gave presentation on the gas tariff and recommended that the government should give subsidies to the Textile Industry so that Industry could be ousted from the prevailing crises.
He informed that all the countries in Asia are giving subsidies in different shape and why not in Pakistan.
The committee also recommended that the government should give subsidies to the Textile Industry to minimize the prevailing crises.
The committee decided and constituted a sub-committee to look into the matters of Gas Tariff and refund of Sales Tax which was stuck-up with the CBR for the last 2 years.
The members of sub-committee are comprising of Haroon Ihsan Piracha, Farid Ahmad Piracha, Manzoor Ahmad and Yasmeen Rehman.
