Leghari against Punjab’s divison on ethnic lines

DG KHAN—Former President Sardar Farooq Ahmed Khan Leghari here Saturday said that Punjab must be divided on administrative basis and not on ethnic lines.
Talking to newsmen at Choti Zairin, he said Punjab is bigger than other provinces so its division will have a good impact on other federating units. He said smaller provinces are of the opinion that Punjab being the biggest unit in population is exploiting other provinces.
He said grievances of Sindh and Balochistan can be redressed if the Punjab is divided into two or three small provinces. Farooq Leghari, however, added that the division of Punjab must not take place in haste and all its implications should be taken into account before a final decision.
He said this step would require a constitutional amendment which ought to be effected with national consensus. He said as new districts are created for administrative convenience so new provinces may also be created for the same purpose and nobody should suspect this process.—APP
