PM asks Punjab to improve law & order

LAHORE—Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Friday asked the Punjab Government to keep up its continued efforts for improving law and order situation, controlling street crime and keeping a watchful check on prices of essential commodities of daily use in the province.
He was talking to Chief Minister Punjab Ch. Pervez Elahi here at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.
The Prime Minister emphasized the need not to allow any slackening of efforts in maintaining and further improving the law and order situation in the province so that the process of ongoing economic development goes on smoothly.
The Chief Minister apprised the Prime Minister of the new initiatives taken by Punjab Government to further check street crimes especially in urban areas.
He said that the installation of Cameras and introduction of community policing in collaboration with civil society especially business and traderscommunity is beginning to have salutary effect on the crime situation.
He said that new highway patrolling system introduced in the five districts of Punjab has curtailed the incidence of crime by 35%. He said the patrol posts will be introduced in other districts in a phased manner.
The Punjab Chief Minister also informed the Prime Minister that system of lodging FIR has been simplified and the number of FIR registration has doubled as a result of these measures.
He assured the Prime Minister that the system of Price Magistrates would be continued in checking prices of essential goods and those involved in profiteering and hoarding would be dealt severely.
The Prime Minister also had a detailed discussion with the Chief Minister Punjab on the overall political situation, party matters and enrolment drive of Pakistan Muslim League.
