President underlines vitality of maritime
might

KARACHI—President General Pervez Musharraf has said that an
extraordinary level of operational preparedness is a key to safeguard
sea frontiers and thwart any aggressive designs.
He was addressing the officers and sailors of Pakistan Navy at Jinnah
Naval Base Ormara, says an ISPR press release issued here on Friday. “We
will radiate constant presence in the region throughnaval operations,
maritime diplomacy and exercises with foreign navies. Pakistan Navy’s
continued participation in Coalition Maritime Campaign Plan (CMCP) is an
extension to this policy and has brought home laurels from the entire
world”.
On arrival at the Jinnah Naval Base, the President wasreceived by Chief
of the Naval Staff, Admiral Muhammad Afzal Tahir. The Base is the
secondary port complex providing theflexibility to Pakistan Navy in
carrying out naval operations towards the west of Karachi. The base
houses all necessary infrastructure for operations and maintenance of
sea going units.
The President said that an extraordinary level of operational
preparedness is a key to safeguard sea frontiers and thwart any
aggressive designs. “I expect and am confident that you will exhibit
highestdegree of professionalism, dedication and keep yourself abreast
with the latest doctrine and procedures to deter any threat oract of
terrorism from the seaward,” he added. The President reaffirmed his
resolve to fulfill all essential requirements of Pakistan Navy.
He said the indigenous programme of Submarine construction has included
Pakistan in the elite club of few countries of the world which have
mastered this technology. F 22-P Frigate, P3-C Orion aircraft and Z-9 C
helicopter deals would augment the existing fleet.The President was
briefed on the salient featuras of Ormara Port. He also had a walk round
all the facilities available and mingled with the sailors and civilian
workers.
