PM vows to
maintain peace at all costs

ISLAMABAD—Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that the Government would
not allow anyone to disturb peace in the country. Talking to newsmen
here after inaugurating 10th All Pakistan Camp for Girl Guides and
Senior Guides this evening on Thursday, the Prime Minister said the
Government wants stable law and order and tranquility in the country to
ensure unhindered march on the road to progress and prosperity.
He told a questioner that North Waziristan type deals are also possible
in other parts of the Tribal Areas. To another question, he said the
Government is in contact with all segments of the society in Baluchistan.
He said more resources are being provided for education, health and
infrastructure development in the province.
About his forthcoming visit to the United Nations, the Prime Minister
said as co-Chairperson of the UN Reforms Committee, the report of the
committee would be presented to the Secretary-General Kofi Annan. The
Committee would also brief other members of the UN about its findings.
Shaukat Aziz said he would have a brief stop in Canada to address a
Micro Credit Conference as key note speaker. Asked about increase in the
prices of some vegetables, the Prime Minister said these went up due to
lack of supplies caused by Eid holidays. The prices are now returning to
normal. He said measures like Price Magistrates and sale of essential
items through utility stores helped check prices during Ramazan.
Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that the Government is introducing
reforms to exploit full potential of the youth for a brighter and more
secure future of Pakistan. He was inaugurating 10th All Pakistan Camp
for Girl Guides and Senior Guides in Islamabad this evening.
He said the Government is focusing on economic, political and social
empowerment of women, enabling them to play a more constructive and
productive role in the society. Shaukat Aziz said Women Protection Bill
would soon be presented before the Parliament for approval to safeguard
rights of women. The said the bill, which would fully conforms to Quran
and Sunnah, would fulfil demands of women for their rights.
He said ‘A Child Protection Bill’ would also be introduced to safeguard
rights and future of children. The Prime Minister said with a view to
ensuring a more dignified place for women in the society, a number of
steps have been taken. These include increasing women literacy rate,
improving their skills base, providing them more opportunities for
income generation and their participation in the political sphere.
He urged women to focus on education and skill acquisition for
improvement of their own lot, their family and ultimately the nation.
The Prime Minister also announced provision of necessary resources for
making camping arrangements on permanent basis in Islamabad. National
Commissioner Pakistan Girls Guide Association Mrs. Azmat Hassan Baluch
told the ceremony that the membership of the association has reached one
hundred thousand. They are trying to help women become confident,
patriotic and law abiding citizens. |
