Decision about NWFP Hockey Association on 5th: Jamali

PESHAWAR—Pakistan Hockey Federation President, Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali Thursday said that decision about NWFP Hockey Association would be announced on November 5, after going through the report submitted by Senior Olympian Jehangir Ahmed Butt.
Talking to reporters after a five hours long meeting with representatives of District Hockey Associations from Abbottabad, Nowshera and Peshawar, Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali said that status quo in the affairs would be maintained till the final decision by November 5.
He said he had sent Jehangir Ahmed Butt who had conducted scrutinies of the clubs in District Peshawar, Nowshera and Abbottabad before the PHF found some misleading things in the affairs of these associations. “Jehangir Butt did the scrutiny and the election in Peshawar and Nowshera Districts while in Abbottabad one party went to the court but now all such wrong affairs would be cleared in the best interest of hockey,” Jamali added.
“I want to end all tussles between groups and thatwas told to all delegations in the meetings and advised them to unite for promotion of hockey in the province in particular and in the country in general,” he said. He disclosed that he had received the report submitted by Senior Olympian Jehangir Ahmed Butt about scrutiny and elections in the districts but so far he had not studied it. “But I’m going to Karachi to have a look on these reports to take key decisions on November 5.
He said he wants to make selection criteria based on performance and favoritism and nepotism would not be tolerated because with such positive approach Pakistan would be able to get back its lost glory in the game. Hockey is the national game and to maintain supremacy those associated with hockey should make dedicated efforts to regain the lost glory, he opined. He said when he took the charge hockey team was selected for World Cup and now for the Asian Games the selection would be made on merit. About the game’s downfall, he said, lack of dedication and commitment were the main reasons. One should take dedicated and commitment to achieve target oriented results. There should be more work needed at the grassroots level if we want to upgrade the overall standard of the game, he said.—Agencies
