Senate body for speedy completion of development schemes

ISLAMABAD—Taking exception to slow pace of work withn regard to
development schemes being implemented under the Khushal Pakistan
Programme in Sindh and NWFP, the Senate Standing Committee on Housing
and Works and Environment has called for expediting work on these
schemes and directed the Pak-PWD to take tangible steps for their speedy
completion.
The Committee, which met at the Parliament House today under the
Chairmanship of Senator Dr. Muhammad Ali Brohi, reviewed in detail the
progress with regard to development work being carried out under Tameer-e-Pakistan
Programme on the schemes furnished by the Parliamentarians in the NWFP.
The Committee also reviewed the progress of PSDP and the development
schemes carried out under the directives of the Prime Minister from the
year 2002-2005.
The members of the Committee pointed out that non completion of
thedevelopment schemes within the stipulated time frame has affected a
large number of people and demanded of the authorities concerned to take
immediate steps to remove the hurdles in the way of smooth
implementation of the schemes prioritized by Parliamentarians. The
Committee decided to visit various sites where work is being executed in
different parts of the country.
It also directed the Pak-PWD authorities to give special attention tothe
maintenance of the residential flats and quarters in different sectors
of Islamabad. In reply to a question, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and
Works informed the Committee that the government has decided to allot a
plot to all Federal Secretaries, who have served in BS-22 for at least
one year. He said that those who have been promoted recently would be
provided the same facility as soon as they complete one year service in
BS-22.
The meeting was also attended by Senators Hafiz Abdul Malik
Qadri,Shuja-ul-Mulk, Bibi Yasmeen Shah, Mir Mohabbat Khan Marrii, Sardar
Mahmood Khan, Farooq Hamid Naek, Syed Muhammad Hussain, Maulana Rahat
Hussain and Muhammad Saleh Shah. Senator Sardar Jamal Khan Leghari
attended the meeting as Special invitee. Secretary M/o Housing and
Works, DG (PWD) and senior officers of the Ministry of Housing and Works
and its attached departments were also present. |
