PAEC, IAEA to conduct workshop on Aquatic Environmental Emergencies

ISLAMABAD—Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) in collaboration with IAEA is hosting a 3-day Workshop on “Assessment, Planning and Response to Aquatic Environmental Emergencies in Pakistan” from November 2-4 here.
The workshop is open to executives, managers, scientists,researchers, environmental modelers, teachers, and students involved in terrestrial and marine coastal pollution research programs at national and regional level.
The moot aims at demonstrating and transferring technologies to end-user institutions for assessment of the impact of contaminants on various components of the aquatic environment (surface water, groundwater, sediment, biota/food chain) and to strengthening national expertise and collaboration on management of Aquatic Environmental Emergencies in Pakistan.
It would provide a forum to discuss technical and managerialissues related to management of aquatic resources, pollution issues under an emergency scenario such as an Oil Spill event or Harmful Algal Bloom event or accidental Inventory of a toxic chemical in the Aquatic environment.
The experts of the IAEA Marine Environment Laboratory, Monaco; Australian Nuclear Science & Technology Organization, Sydney and Pakistan Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology (PINSTECH), Islamabad would deliver lectures.
Dr. Kauser Abdulla Malik, Member (Planning Commission), Govt. of Pakistan will chair the inaugural session of the workshop.
