Pak to get
poppy-free status by next year: Maher

ISLAMABAD—Pakistan would get the status of poppy free country next year
as the cultivation of poppy has been mostly eliminated from the country,
said Federal Minister for Narcotics Control, Ghous Bus Khan Maher here
on Wednesday.
He was talking to media people after the meeting with US AmbassadorRayon
C. Crocker who met him in his office here on Wednesday.
He said, we would continue to eliminate the cultivation of poppy fromthe
country as well as from the region for which the help of neighboring
countries is needed.
He said US government helping us technically and financially for
completely elimination of cultivation of poppy. He said US Ambassador
lauded the efforts of Pakistani government for eliminating the poppy
cultivation and to control the drug trafficking form Pakistan.
He further said that US Ambassador assured that US government
wouldcontinue in its support to Pakistan in its battle against drug
mafia.
Minister further said that due to polices of present government and
affective measures the drug trafficking has been mostly controlled.
All the entry and exit point are under watch of ANF whose are
workingvery hard day and night to eliminate this menace from the
country.
He said FIA and other agencies are also cooperating us in fighting
against the drug traffickers as well as human traffickers was well as
human traffickers which are problem of our country.
He disclosed that United State as well as Canada is fully cooperating
Pakistan in controlling the drug trafficking. The required fund is
available while US and Canada also providing funds and technically
supports.
The Federal Secretary Ministry of Narcotics Control, the director
General of ANF and other senior officers of ANF and ministry of were
also present in the meeting. |
