Export body eyes non-traditional markets

ISLAMABAD—The 49th meeting of the Board of Administrators of Export Development Fund (EDF) held on November 1, 2006 in the committee room of the Ministry of Commerce. Mr. Humayun Akhtar Khan, Minister for Commerce/Chairman of the EDF Board presided over the meeting.
The participants of the meeting included the Minister of State for Commerce, Vice Chairman, Export Promotion Bureau and representatives of Ministry of Textile Industry, Ministry of Food & Agriculture and Ministry of Industries. Representatives from Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and of prominent trade associations. The Board of Administrators confirmed the minutes of the previous meeting held on 6-10-2006. The Board also looked into the implementation status of the decisions taken in the 48th meeting of the Board.
The Board reviewed progress regarding the on-going schemes financed from EDF. The Board also considered the proposals received from the various trade bodies relating to export promotion. The Board while approving the budget of Rs. 45.37 million of the Pakistan Horticulture Export and Development Board (PHDEB) directed to PHDEB to intensify the efforts for increasing export of fruits and vegetable to non-traditional markets and appreciated the successful introduction of Kinnow in Russia.
