Pak delegation leaves to attend int’l conference on human trafficking
ISLAMABAD—An interior ministry delegation led by Minister of State for
Interior Zafar Iqbal Warraich on Tuesday left for Tehran to attend
bilateral conference on human trafficking and illegal migration.
The delegation would hold meetings with Iranian Interior Ministry
officials on several issues, interior ministry sources said.
Warraich said the government had taken number of initiatives including
launch of a National Action Plan, establishment of Inter Agency Task
Force and setting up of a unit at the ministry to curb the menace of
human trafficking.
Director General FIA said that “through these measures, we have been
able to reduce human smuggling from the country to Europe and Middle
East.”
He said the security agencies were taking measures to bring the problem
fully under control.
He said that co-operation and information sharing between Pakistan and
various other countries had significantly improved since last year.
The objectives of the conference was to reinforce and improve existing
policies, establish an effective system of sharing information among the
participating countries and to promote regular consultations to evolve
strategies and plan of action to combat organised crime.
FIA Director General Tariq Pervez said that Pakistan had made
significant progress in developing bilateral co-operation with Iran,
Turkey and Greece in the fight against human smuggling and illegal
immigration.
He said the meeting would help find ways and means to enhance mutual
co-operation among the two-country.—Agencies |
