‘Efficient use of fertilizers to accelerate economic growth’

ISLAMABAD—The government is committed to promote balance and efficient use of fertilizers for growth in a agriculture and accelerate economic growth.
It was stated by Member Planning Commission Dr. Kausar Abdullah Malik here Tuesday during an interaction with media-men on the eve of symposium on “ Balanced Fertilizers Use: Impact on Crop Production”. He said task force for in depth analysis is also being proposed to find ways and means to achieve yield potential.
Dr. Kausar said emphasis is to be placed on small farmers and extension strategy would be changed from conventional approach to field schools. He said the policy measure to subsidize phosphate fertilizers is important factor to motivate farmers to use balanced fertilizers.
The overall crop production management is also very important taking into account proper variety, weeding and improving water use efficiency, he added. He also highlighted the fertilizer consumption in Pakistan and hoped that this symposium would help to promote efficient use of fertilizers.
Dr. Kausar said this international symposium jointly organized by Planning and Development Division in collaboration with World Institute (IMPHOS), FAO of the United Nations, Federal/Provincial Agriculture Ministries and Fertilizer industry suggested strategies to promote balance and efficient fertilizer use for higher crop productivity and financial gains for the farmers.
