New Quality Enhancement Cells at varsities soon
By Bushra Rafique
ISLAMABAD—Higher Education Commission (HEC) has approved a project to
establish 20 more Quality Enhancement Cells (QECs) at public sector
universities.
The Quality Enhancement Cells are being established in furtherance of
the programme for introduction of modern quality assurance practices in
the higher education institutions of Pakistan.
The purpose of this initiative is to build the capacity of higher
education institutions to meet the rising global challenges of quality
assurance which would result in improved levels of international
compatibility and competitiveness of our graduates.
The Quality Assurance Agency of the Commission is responsible for
designing and monitoring of quality assurance programmes in institutions
of higher learning across the country, HEC announced here Tuesday. The
Quality Agency provides practical quality assurance guidelines in
cross-cutting areas of higher learning and gives guidelines for the
establishment of Quality Enhancement Cells at all universities with a
special focus on quality of higher education.
The HEC has successfully launched 10 Quality Enhancement Cells in public
sector universities under the Quality Assurance Agency.
Enhancement in quality will result in improved employment prospects of
graduates from universities where Quality Assurance Programme has been
implemented.
The programme is expected to benefit all stakeholders in the higher
education sector i.e. students, faculty members, administrators and
policy makers as enhanced levels of quality in higher learning will
provide support to foster development in other sectors of the economy
like industry, agriculture, trade and commerce etc. |
