US denies
role in Bajaur raid
ISLAMABAD—US military has denied any role in a raid in Bajaur tribal
region saying that Pakistan’s security forces have conducted the attack
independently.
The Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) while claimed that the United States
was involved in attack on a seminary in Bajaur agency and announced to
observe a protest day against the incident on Tuesday. A US military
spokesman in Afghanistan ha said that he was unaware about US military
role in Bajaur operation adding that the US central command was also
clueless about it. He said that the raid was independently conducted by
Pakistan military.
An American news channel had reported that Dr Zawahiri was a likely
target of the raid. It quoted an unidentified official that there were
credible reports Dr Zawahiri was hiding in the seminary. Pakistan
military spokesman Maj. General Shaukat Sultan has denied the reports.
Addressing a news conference here MMA President Qazi Hussain Ahmad has
said that the missiles were fired from U.S. airplanes. He also announced
to observe a protest day against the incident on Tuesday.—INP |
