Senate delegation arrives in Ottawa

ISLAMABAD—A five-member parliamentary delegation led by Chairman Senate Muhammadmian Soomro arrived in Ottawa to hold meetings with various Canadian dignitaries, says a message received here.
The delegation including Senators Chaudhry Muhammad Anwar Bhinder, Ahmed Ali, Engineer Rashid Ahmed Khan and Nawab Muhammad Ayaz Khan Jogezai, was warmly received by Speaker of Canadian Senate Noel A. Kinsella.
During its stay in Canada, the delegation would hold meetings with Speaker of the House of Commons Peter Milliken MP, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Michael A. Brown and the host i.e. Speaker of the Senate of Canada Noel A. Kinsella and brief them about the working of parliamentary system in Pakistan with particular reference to the role of the Senate in creating harmony between various federating units.
It is also scheduled to meet Minister of National Defence, Gordon O’Connor P.C, MP, Minister for Public Safety; Stokwell Day; Minister for Natural Resources, Gary Lunn, P.C, MP; Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, Monte Solberg, P.C, MP and Chairman of Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and discuss matters relating to promotion of bilateral ties between Pakistan and Canada in various fields.
The delegation will express gratitude to the Government of Canada for the prompt response, support and assistance for the earthquake relief operation in Pakistan.
