Gonzalez boosts Shanghai hopes with Nalbandian win

VIENNA—Fifth-seeded Chilean Fernando Gonzalez boosted his outside hopes of making the Masters Cup with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory over second-seeded Argentine David Nalbandian in the quarter-finals of the ATP event here.
The result was enough for Gonzalez to overtake Spain's David Ferrer in 12th place in the race for the season-ending Masters in China which features the world's top eight players.
Nalbandian remains in eighth place in the standings.
Gonzalez will face America's Andy Roddick in Saturday's semi-finals here.
Third-seeded Roddick made it five career wins out of five against last weeks Metz runner-up Jurgen Melzer with a 6-4, 6-3 victory.
Slovak Dominik Hrbaty saw off Stefan Koubek of Austria 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 and will now face top seed and defending champion Ivan Ljubicic who knocked out Stanislas Wawrinka 6-3, 6-2.—Agencies
