16 dead, four missing in southwest China flooding
BEIJING—Flooding and landslides caused by torrential rains in
southwestern China have left at least 20 people dead or missing and 11
others injured, state press said Saturday.
Heavy downpours from October 6 to 12 in the Honghe prefecture of Yunnan
province triggered the flooding and landslides in the mountainous
region, Xinhua news agency reported in a short dispatch. The natural
disaster has resulted in the evacuation of up to 20,000 people, while
2,000 homes have collapsed in the region largely populated by the Hani,
