HEC takes serious note of plagiarism cases
Staff Report
ISLAMABAD—The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has taken serious note
of the cases of alleged plagiarism in various university departments of
the country.
Dr. Atta-ur-Rahman, Chairman HEC has asked vice chancellors of
University of Peshawar, and University of Agriculture, Faisalabad to
constitute inquiry committees to investigate the allegations.
"In case the allegations prove to be true the Chairman has advised the
university administrations to take strict disciplinary action against
perpetrators of such intellectual theft," said an HEC press release
issued here on Friday.
Dr. Wazeem Khan of the Institute of Education and Research (IER),
University of Peshawar is alleged to have reproduced a chapter of a
book, Measurement and Evaluation in Teaching authored by Norman E
Gronlund and Robert L. Linn as his research paper in 'Journal of
Education and Research' as his own.
Mr. M.S. Mahmood of the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad and other
faculty members are alleged to have copied the work of Prof. J. H. Sun
and published it as their own.
Meanwhile, it has been learnt that the University of Punjab has served
charge sheets to five faculty members of the Centre for High Energy
Physics with a statement of allegations that they had plagiarized and
reproduced research articles of foreign authors. They include
Dr.Fazl-e-Aleem, Mr. Maqsood Ahmad, Mr. Rashid Ahmad, Mr. M Saeed Khan
and Mr. Sohail Afzaal Tahir.
An earlier case of plagiarism at International Islamic University led to
the forced resignation of the professor concerned after the intervention
of the Higher Education Commission. As a matter of policy, HEC has zero
tolerance to acts of plagiarism and has urged university vice
chancellors to dismiss faculty members involved where such incidents of
theft are proved to have occurred. |
