Pak ready to sign NPT conditionally

MOSCOW—Pakistan says it will sign the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) if recognized as nuclear power.
According to Radio Mashhad Pakistan's Secretary for Foreign Affairs Riaz Muhammad Khan has arrived in Vienna to inform members of nuclear club about conditional willingness of his country.
Pakistan hopes to become a nuclear state by getting benefit from the present situation. But there have been little chances that five permanent members of nuclear club will respond positively to Pakistan's announcement.
However, there may be different reasons behind Pakistan's readiness to sign the NPT in the present situation.
Firstly, Pakistan has been facing problems in protecting its nuclear status in the current situation especially after Indo-US nuclear deal.
Secondly the United States and NATO have been pressing hard Pakistan for more cooperation against Taliban and Al-Qaeda. Pakistan's National security has become more sensitive in presence of this pressure.
Thirdly, nuclear test by North Korea has developed a new environment for Pakistan.
Secret cooperation of Pakistan's nuclear scientist Dr. Abdul Qadir khan with North Korea is also important in this regard. There are possibilities that Pakistani leaders have been considering the present situation after North Korea's nuclear test as suitable for becoming the NPT member to reduce the threats being faced by their country.
