Senate body concerned at govt's inaction in changing oil prices

ISLAMABAD—The sub committee of the Senate Standing Committee on
Petroleum and Natural Resources Thursday expressed grave concern about
inaction to review the oil prices despite sharp decline in prices in the
international market. The committee desired that the meeting of the main
standing committee be convened as early as possible for the disposal of
its agenda particularly the matters pertaining to the SSGCL.
The meeting was held in the Parliament Building with Khawaja Sheraz
Mahmood, MNA newly appointed Convenor in the chair to chalk out afresh
program to consider the terms of references (TORs) formulated by the
Standing Committee regarding the affairs of the Pakistan State Oil (PSO)
concerning appointments made during 2000-2004, phenomenal increase in
the salary of the then Managing Director, Award of Rs 400 million SAP
contract, fake export to Afghanistan, dumping of petroleum products
award of contract of hoarding and hiring and furnishing of a private
house in Nathiagali.
The committee was briefed by Pir Syed Fazal Ali Shah Jeelani, MNA
regarding previous proceedings of the committee by expressing the
concern that nothing has been done for the last 2-years regarding the
irregularities committed in the PSO despite constitution of this
committee. It was Accountability Bureau regarding irregularities
committed in the PSO be requisitioned to enable this committee to report
with reference to subject TORs.
The committee also decided to acquire the services of an expert
consultant to report and make a presentation as to what extent the PSO
provided releveant information to the sub-committee with reference to
the TORs and requisitions made by the sub-committee.
The meeting was attended by Pir Syed Fazal Ali Shah Jeelani, Raja
Pervaiz Ashraf, Mr Manzoor Hussain Wassan and Rana Mahmood ul Hassan
Members of National Assembly. |
