MMA vows to resign if Ulma's proposals ignored in Hadood Ordinance

KARACHI—Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) has once again warned the government that it would resign if any attempt be made to pass amendment bill to Hadood Ordinance without considering Ulma's proposals.
Talking to newsmen at Qasar-i-Naz here on Tuesday, the MMA leader said General Pervez must have to include proposals on which Maulana Taqi Usmani, Chaudary Shujaat Hussain, Punjab Chief Minister Chaudary Pervaiz Elahi and 8 other Ulma endorsed their signature.
He said Select Committee proposed to exclude Zina-bil-Jabar from the Ordinance putting that offence under PPC stating Tazir which was un-Islamic.
He said the bill would be useless without including 6 proposals that meant to protect women rights which included; prevention of women's marriage with the Holy Qura'an, Wani, exchange marriages, matter relating to three divorces, women's ingredient in inheritance andothers.
"Passing of Select Committee's bill would mean that Ulma's proposals are set aside and violation of Article 227 of the constitution", he said.
The MMA leader said Council of Islamic Ideological (CII) has become 'Pervez Ideological Council' which meant to interpret Islamic laws according to government's desire, that's the reason Javed Ghamdi resigned from IIC.
He urged the Chairman and members of IIC to resign immediately.
The MMA leader said MMA would resign if government tried to pass Protection of Women Bill without considering Ulma's proposals and following Select Committee suggestions. —Agencies
