India becomes
most corrupt nation in world: Indian Daily
ISLAMABAD—Corruption in India is not only confined to politicians or the
government machinery alone but to the entire society at all levels said
an article in Indian Daily, Central Chronicle on Wednesday.
India's contribution to the world is zero. In the matter of bribery and
corruption they are the heroes, for they discriminate not, the paper
says.
No wonder Transparency Bribe Payer's Index 2006 brands India the most
corrupt nation in the world. India now becomes the most corrupt
exporting nation in the world too.
This ranking is a matter of serious concern at a time when Indian
business is aggressively scouting to buy out foreign companies. India
has been repeatedly branded as one of the most corrupt countries of the
world. The ranking does notimprove with the passage of time.
The abysmal ranking suggests that we have few institutional checks and
balances to ensure that business, whether at home, or abroad, is
conducted in an ethical manner, says the daily.
Files take forever to move, civil servants seem beyond accountability
and the judicial system is dogged with delays. It is very difficult for
anybody to thrive in such an environment.
According to the daily several international companies are reported to
have complained that it is difficult to do business in India, as palms
have to be greased at every level to get things moving.—APP |
