Motrola foundation extends $ 50,000 donation
for quake victims
KARACHI- A donation of $ 50,000 has been extended for the earthquake
victims in Pakistan by the Motorola Foundation. An announcement to this
effect was made in a statement issued here on Sunday.
It said the Motorola and CARE International join forces to support
reconstruction of schools in Allai Valley.
The statement said the Motorola Foundation, the giving organisation of
Motorola, has granted US $ 50,000 to CARE International to further
support the reconstruction of schools in the most affected earthquake
area of Allai Valley.
"During the terrible earthquakes exactly one year ago, approximately 200
out of 215 schools in Allai Valley alone were badly damaged or
destroyed. We are committed to reconstruction and to restoring education
to this remote area, and are very pleased to be supported by a leading
global company such as Motorola", said Country Director, CARE
International in Pakistan, Navaraj Gyawali.
To reinforce the importance of this donation, Motorola and CARE
International will conduct the ground-breaking for a new school on
October 21. This will coincide with an important day for Motorola.
Under the theme of "Global Day of Service", thousands of Motorola
employees around the world will volunteer four hours of service to the
communities where they live and work.
A group of selected employees of Motorola in Pakistan will go to Allai
Valley, assist in the ground-breaking activities, visit the communities,
spend time with the children and help them with their schoolwork.
"Motorola feels deep sympathy with the victims of the earthquake, and we
are proud not only to provide financial support to those who need it
most; in addition, our employees are committed to help and support the
children in Allai valley", said Motorola's Country Manager in Pakistan
Nadeem Safdar.
"It is the utmost concern of the Motorola Foundation to help where it is
most needed, predominantly in the area of education. Rebuilding the
schools in this area will help to restore education to children and give
them back their future", emphasised Director of the Motorola Foundation,
Eileen Sweeney.
Motorola's donation will also enable CARE International to establish a
parent-teacher association and a school management committee to monitor
construction and ongoing activities.
Once the school is in place, CARE International will work with the local
community and local government. In this way, efforts will be sustainable
and have lasting benefits beyond the duration of the project. |
