Decision to step down from captaincy was in haste, anger
LAHORE—Pakistan Cricket team’s makeshift captain,Younis Khan said on
Saturday that his earlier decision to step down as captain was in haste
and anger and he regrets it.
“ I deeply regret my earlier decision which I took being very emotional
and in haste and I apologise for it to all team members and the outgoing
Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board, Shaharyar M Khan “,he told APP here
before the team’s departure to India for taking part in the Champions
Trophy tournament.
“ Now I have again been given the responsibility to lead the side and I
would be putting my best to motivate the team in the role of a leader,”,
he said.
He said the team would be united under his command and his ultimate
objective is to lead the side in a positive manner for obtaining
productive results in the Champions Trophy.
“ We have the best all types of bowlers and batsmen in our ranks and I
am fully confident that all the team members are eager to take on a
tough challenge bravely in India where world’s best teams have assembled
for a tile quest “,he observed.
Younis termed the Champions Trophy “ a very tough competition “ amid
presence of world’s best teams and said it demands best of the best from
every player.
“ We are not under pressure, and we will be coming up with fine
performance in the tournament which will be test of skills and technique
of our players “,he added.
Muhammad Yousaf said he has no regrets for not being the captain of the
team. “ God willing I was the captain and now I am the vice captain and
I have no regrets on changing of my status “,he said.
He said he is contended on being vice captain and he will be making
resolute efforts for enhancing team’s performance and being a useful
part of the team.
“ Every player has his own value and importance in the team because of
their respective talent and technique and I have the same role and God
willing I will be fully justifying with my duties “,he said.—Agencies |
