Best Teacher’ awards goes to 35 teachers

Islamabad—Thirty five teachers from all over the country gathered here to receive cash awards of Rs.30,000, medals and certificates for ‘Best Teacher’ as part of commemorations for International Teachers’ Day this week (October 5).
International Teacher’s Day was initiated by the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) 40 years ago. In recent years Pakistan’s Ministry of Education has honored selected outstanding teachers as part of its efforts to encourage excellence in teaching.
This year, the Ministry of Education has selected 35 teachers from all over Pakistan to be given the Best Teacher Award. Chosen from schools, colleges and universities across Punjab, Sindh, NWFP, Balochistan, AJK, FANA and FATA, the 35 winners include 16 female teachers and 19 male teachers.
The 2006 awards include a cash prize of Rs.30,000 for each teacher - co-sponsored by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and UNESCO. They were given to outstanding Pakistani teachers at a ceremony held Thursday at the National Library of Pakistan, Islamabad.
The awards also include a Special Prize for Lifelong Contribution going to. Muhammad Hussain Chaudhry of Wah Cantt.
