Pakistan, China discuss arms control, disarmament

ISLAMABAD—The Third Round of Pakistan-China consultations on Arms Control and Disarmament issues was held here at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The delegation of China was led by Zhang Yan, Director General (Arms Control and Disarmament), Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China.Pakistan side was headed by Khalil Ullah Qazi, Director General (Disarmament). Zhang also called on Foreign Secretary Riaz Mohammad Khan.
The talks were held in a very cordial atmosphere, which is reflective of the close friendly relations enjoyed by Pakistan and China.Both sides expressed satisfaction at the level of cooperation between the two countries in various fields and noted the similarly of their approaches to issues of disarmament, non proliferation and peaceful use of nuclear energy.
Regional and global security matters were also discussed. It was also emphasized that the non proliferation, disarmament and arms control issue can be best addressed through multilaterally negotiated, universal and non discriminatory regimes.
The next round of consultations would be held in Beijing in 2007.—Online
