Yaseen Malik to stage in sit-in in New Delhi

SRINAGAR—Chairman Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yasin Malik will participate in a sit-in being organized at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar tomorrow (Wednesday), in support of Muhammad Afzal Guru, the parliament attack convict, who is to be hanged on October 20.
A spokesman of JKLF said Tuesday that Malik who is camping in New Delhi from last two days, held a series of meetings with eminent lawyers, intellectuals, journalists, politicians and human rights activists to garner support for Afzal Guru, so that his death verdict is revoked.
Malik met veteran politician and General Secretary of Communist Party of India (M), A R Bardan, urging him to use his good offices to get Afzal’s death verdict revoked. He also held a threadbare discussion with Booker prize winner and prominent human rights activist, Arundhati Roy and appealed her to participate in the ‘Save Afzal campaign,’ the spokesman said.
Besides, the JKLF chairman also met with veteran journalist Kuldeep Nayyar, Justice (Retired) Rajinder Sachar, Prof Kamal Mitra Chenoy of Jawahar Lal Nehru University, noted human rights activists Tapan Bose and Gautam Navlakha, prominent lawyer Nandita Hoksar, and president of Gandhi Peace Foundation, Nirmala Deshpanday.
The spokesman said that besides Yaseen Malik, the sit-in will be also participated by a number of political and human rights activists of India and Held Kashmir.—Agencies
