AI, HRCP calls for probe into disappearnaces

ISLAMABAD—AI and HRCP has urged the government to establish an inter-parliamentary mechanism to receive complaints about cases of enforced disappearance and ensure all the complaints are investigated effectively.
It has been demanded in a two days workshop held here Saturday and Sunday.
People all over the country including members of AI, HRCP, Islamic Centre for Defence of Human Rights, Balochistan Students Organisation (BSO) and Sindh National Congress (SNC) participated in the workshop.
Workshop participants expressed concern over the growing number of enforced disappearances and condemned the government efforts to conceal the agents holding people in secret detention. The participants demanded the government to provide each family with accurate information about the arrests of their relatives and shut down the places of illegal detention.
They also urged the UN Working Group on enforced disappearance to visit Pakistan to check growing number of disappearances in Paksitan.—Agencies
