Bartoli and Sugiyama advance in Korea

SEOUL—Third-seeded Marion Bartoli of France rallied to beat Japan's Akiko Morigami 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 Friday and advance to the Korea Open semifinals.
Bartoli will face Eleni Daniilidou of Greece. The three-time WTA title winner downed Vera Zvonareva of Russia 7-6 (4), 6-4. Bartoli is gunning for her second career WTA singles title after beating Zvonareva in January's ASB Classic final. She was runner-up in the Wismilak International at Bali two weeks ago.
Japan's Ai Sugiyama cruised past Argentina's Paola Suarez 6-2, 6-3 for a berth in the other semifinal. Sugiyama will meet Virginia Ruano Pascual of Spain, who beat Sania Mirza of India 7-6 (3), 4-6, 7-6 (3). Mirza eliminated top-seeded Martina Hingis in the second round Wednesday.
Ruano Pascual has a 2-1 record against Sugiyama.
"It will be a tough one for sure," said Sugiyama. "She may be a little tired. I will have to fight for every single point."—Agencies
