200,000 sq.km sedimentary areas under exploration: Jadoon

ISLAMABAD—Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources,Amanullah Khan Jadoon Saturday said out of 827,000 square kilometerssedimentary areas, about 200,000 square kilometer area was under exploration of natural resources. "The government was giving highest priority to enhance indigenous oil and gas production in view of high energy prices in the world market and meeting the growing energy needs in the country."
He made these remarks while talking to Chief Executive Officer of GGSSpectrum Company of Norway, Collin Fleming who called on him here andexpressed his company's desire to invest US $ 25 million on updating ofSeismic data of Pakistan.
Giving a presentation to the Minister about his company's profile andworldwide activities in the oil and gas sector, Collin Fleming proposed tocarry out seismic survey of entire offshore area of Pakistan in two phasesfree of cost and liability under multi-client arrangements.
The Minister said the Government would welcome the spectrum's proposalfor offshore seismic survey and observed that updating seismic data wasprerequisite for the successful oil and gas exploration.
He underlined the need to use state-of-the-art technology for boostingthe petroleum sector. Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Resources, Mir MohammadNaseer Mengal, Secretary, Petroleum, Ahmed Waqar, Director General PC and Oil were also present during the meeting.
