Argentina stun Pakistan, Netherlands win a thriller

Moenchengladbach—Argentina stunned Pakistan with a 1-0 win in pool A encounter of the men's hockey World Cup tournament in Monchengladbach.
Pakistan's hopes of achieving a top-two finish in the group was also dealt a serious blow with the defeat to the South American team Monday.
The solitary goal of the match came in the sixth minute, after the lemon-break, from a penalty stroke by Matias Damian Vila.
Pakistan now have five points, while Argentina are on four.In a pool B game, title favourites the Netherlands came back from behind to edge out England 4-3 in a thrilling encounter.
Richard Mantell and James Tindall gave the English a two-goal lead in the first half, but the Dutch Teun de Nooijer and Ronald Brouwer equalised matters before the change of sides.
Tindall struck again for England to break the deadlock but two excellent goals from Taeke Teakema saw the Dutch snatch a dramatic late 4-3 victory that pushes them up to seven points - equal with Germany.
In other matches, India continued their poor run in the tournament with a 1-2 loss to South Korea and Spain took a step towards a semi-final berth by beating New Zealand 3-1. The win put South Korea on top of pool B with 10 points.
Spain now lead pool A with eight points followed by the Kiwis, who have seven points in their kitty.—Agencies
